recycled risotto

I absolutely adore orange bell peppers. They are sweet and tangy and the most nutritious of all peppers! Get that beta-carotene.
Needless to say they were divine. The hollow bell peppers provided the leftover risotto a hot and moist oven within the 370 degree oven. We added lots of peppers and more soy sauce, giving this Italian staple a Japanese makeover.
Here we have King Salmon steaks marinated in soy, wasabi, sirah wine, sesame oil sauce with chopped pickled ginger. Incredible.
This meal made us very happy. We also had a side of sauteed wild chicory greens. Bitter and nutritious!
Currently I’ve got the most sensual brownies bubbling in the oven. We’ll call them chocolate-banana-vanilla bean brownies with nuts. Of course it has nuts. Ah, I’d better check on them.

blonde giggly’s high point
January 26, 2011
the landlord’s check for six hundred and twenty five dollars rests of the corner of the cheap black desk, it’s been stuck there for three days now, as if it’s glued down. why don’t I go find Edward and hand him the check? I could even simply leave it on his workbench or stick it in mailbox number 751. The ghostly wavering whisper of Ms. Marissa Nadler fills this space today. I like to twirl to her cascading guitar, it’s easy to do when I keep my socks on. Why is it that the weatherman promises sunshine all day long but it doesn’t shine until it’s sunk below the clouds at the low level of four pm. By now it is too late to jaunt merrily out of doors, too many cars are on the road, headed home from their parking lots. Why, a person’s vehicle demands more vacant space to breathe than I receive! It’s 4:12 pm thus I am still slotted in the “listen for Robert’s tires to grind the gravel” period. Life is a boundless limbo until you categorize it.
I wrote very well today as I waited at the food bank. It was a nice environment, the old elementary school, now the police station, has a remarkable odor. It was curious to listen to the old gents discuss regardedly strange artists such as Bjork but it was more curious to note how each gent steered the conversation, where did he want it to go and how did he guide it? The one just needed to keep it going, and was unfazed when the other drove it up and away into the sky… so high. “This is the high point in my week!” giggled one overgrown, overgrayed child lady. She could not have snuggled up closer to the great artist with the long and loveable face whom everyone adores. I’ve seen him so many times it would be impossible to count. In fact, he may one of the three people whom I see most often around this town. I always smile sweetly for he is a sweet old man and dresses wonderfully. Today he had on baggy khaki pants with a groovy peace sign patch, luxuriously thick cashmere socks, and blouse, jacket, vest, and coat upon coat. Always stylin’.
I am well under way to gobbling up ever Ruth Reichl novel. She is an artist, a transient, and has been incredibly successful. I’m envious that she has been successful in both realms, as a professional and as an artist. How is it possible? She was a total loser by the time she 18. I’m just 19, so I believe there is still hope for me. I wish I could be in school, but my last university didn’t fit and I would hate to waste anymore time earning a useless degree in Theology from that place. So, I’ll wait it out and continue to educate myself. And of course, cook food for Robert.
Matsutake Risotto
Stock
- 1/2 Matsutake mushroom soaked overnight in slow cooker to produce at least 7 cups of broth.
Risotto
- 1 organic shallot from Chimacum, Washington, chopped
- 3 cups Arborio rice
- 1 cherry bomb pepper, chopped
- 1 bottle good white wine, to add and to drink
- 1 Italian zucchini, chopped
- several handfuls of washed baby shitakes, chopped
- salt and pepper to taste
Learn how to cook risotto. It’s a delicious and happy way to prepare comforting rice and veggies. This batch was very spicy and warming because of the cherrybomb pepper and the white wine. I took way too much rice from the bulk bin but went ahead and made all of it. We ended up with two big mason jars of leftovers and tonight will be night #3 of cleaning it off. Tonight we will stuff poblano peppers with the rice and add fresh tomato and tamari and perhaps some fresh chicory that I picked up from the food bank. Mmm the food bank rocks. Totally worth the slander and grime.
